About us
Welcome to PIWOYOT! We empower women, youth, and vulnerable children in Tanzania through education, health, food security, and entrepreneurship.
Founded in May 2018, PIWOYOT is a non-governmental organization based in Arusha, Tanzania. Registered under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act No. 24 of 2002 (amended in 2005), PIWOYOT focuses on empowering women, youth, and vulnerable children through initiatives in education, health, food security, entrepreneurship, and capacity building.

Things we’re great at
PIWOYOT works to improve the livelihoods of women, youth, and vulnerable children in Tanzania through targeted programs.

Education
Enhancing access to quality education, life skills, and improved learning environments for children and youth.

Health
Promoting maternal and child health, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and sexual reproductive health education.

Women Empowerment
Providing financial literacy, entrepreneurship training, and seed capital to women and widows
Our Focus Area
Our work revolves around three key pillars: Education, Food Security, and Health. These interconnected focus areas allow us to holistically support communities, respond to their needs, and build lasting resilience
Education
We promote access to quality education by improving learning environments, providing life skills training, and supporting vulnerable children, especially girls to stay in school and achieve their goals.
Food Security
We support sustainable agriculture through training, seed capital, and climate-smart practices like drip irrigation to help families grow nutritious food and improve household income.
Health
We promote maternal, child, and adolescent health through WASH initiatives, sexual and reproductive health education, and community awareness programs to build healthier futures.
Our Projects
Explore our growing list of impactful projects that are changing lives across Tanzania. From school feeding and menstrual health programs to climate-smart agriculture and widow empowerment, each project reflects our commitment to sustainable transformation

Drip Irrigation Project
Continued widows’ empowerment through drip irrigation systems, supported by WODF and Trelleborg Europe (2023).

Fruit Tree Planting
Empowering widows through fruit tree planting and mixed crop cultivation for income, food security, and climate change mitigation, funded by WODF through Trelleborg Europe

Women Empowerment
Women empowerment project at Olchoroonyokie-Oldonyo in Ketubeine, Longido, funded by Beth Ekness-Hanson (2025).
Empowering Women Through Skills
In the heart of Maasai communities, PIWOYOT is helping women discover new pathways to self-reliance
Through our soap-making training, Maasai women are gaining practical entrepreneurship skills that open doors to income generation and improved household well-being. This initiative not only provides economic opportunities but also strengthens their role in community decision-making
Water for Growth
Access to clean water is transforming lives in rural villages
With the installed drip irrigation system, families can now grow fresh vegetables year-round, even in dry seasons. This innovation improves nutrition, supports household income, and empowers communities, especially women to use local resources effectively for a healthier future
Testimonials
Hear from the community members whose lives have been transformed through PIWOYOT’s programs. Their stories reflect the real impact of our work on the ground
PIWOYOT’s training on sexual reproductive health and self-confidence changed how I see myself and my future. I’ve learned to make informed decisions and even speak to my peers about their rights. I feel empowered to be a leader in my community
Lalashe Larinyoni

Before joining PIWOYOT, I struggled to feed my children. Through their drip irrigation project, I started farming vegetables even during dry seasons. Now, I sell produce at the market and earn enough to support my family.
Monika Zakaria

Joining the VICOBA group trained by PIWOYOT helped me learn how to save and run a small business. Today, I own a cereal shop and support my siblings’ education. I never thought I could become financially independent
